Sound Forest / Between Worlds is the latest installation in an ongoing collaboration between sound artist Bruce Odland and artist Soli Pierce in which expansive sound environments are built within immersive installations consisting of natural materials including wood, moss, and bark. This will be one of the most ambitious forms this project has taken filling the entirety of our 1500 square foot Theater Gallery.
This exhibition will be supplemented by a wide variety of the following public programming:

Our capacity to truly listen and absorb everyday sound is often dampened—if not entirely ignored—by the pressures of the modern urban soundscape. In this unusual, intimate workshop, you’ll re-tune your ears to the primal sense of acute hearing. Sound artist Bruce Odland, who has spent his career highlighting the complex and vibrant sonic landscapes that make up our world, will facilitate a series of exercises designed to stimulate the hunter‑gatherer precision of hearing. Participants will be encouraged to stretch underused auditory muscles, expand their reach and potential, and think with their ears.

Immerse yourself in the world of sound with 32 Sounds, a profound sensory experience from Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Sam Green (The Weather Underground, A Thousand Thoughts). This documentary explores the elemental power of sound to shape our perceptions, bend time, and transcend boundaries. Featuring original music by JD Samson (Le Tigre, MEN), 32 Sounds weaves together 32 distinct sonic explorations into a cinematic meditation.
Experience 32 Sounds in several unique formats: a theatrical version with 7.1 Surround Sound; a live performance featuring headphones for each audience member, live narration by Sam Green, and live music by JD Samson; a theatrical Headphone Experience; and a specially designed immersive at-home version.
